Carson McCarl – Weekend McDouble
Dallas, TX (June 6, 2019) – Carson McCarl pulled off the Friday/Saturday double header last weekend at Jackson and the Knoxville Raceway, coming home 11th and 4th respectively and moving into second in the 360 point standings at Knoxville. It will be déjà vu for Carson this weekend, as he’ll be back in action tomorrow night at the Jackson Speedway, before heading back to Knoxville to see if he can improve one spot in the points!
Friday night started off rough for Carson, as he pulled the #100 pill during the heat race draw, leaving him starting dead last in the first heat. “Starting 10th in the first heat wasn’t a great way to start the night,” said McCarl. “The track was still pretty heavy and a bit rough, but we were able to move up some spots to finish 7th, though it wasn’t enough to keep us out of a B-main.”
Starting on the second row of the first B-main, Carson was able to move up a spot and take the Cressman Enterprises/Jetco Electric #27 to the night’s main event. The night would end up with McCarl taking home the Hard Charger award after he maneuvered from 21st up to 11th by the time the checkered flag waved.
When Carson rolled into the pits at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night, they were packed with 360s. 48 cars took time and McCarl went out 6th in the first of two flights of time trials. “We qualified really well on Saturday,” said Carson. “With the number of cars there on Saturday, it was important for us to lock in a good time and we put ourselves in a good position with fourth in the first group.”
Starting fifth in his heat, Carson would struggle early, but slid his way back into a solid finish. “We had a lot of speed all night,” said McCarl. “I fell back at the beginning of the heat race, but was able to get into a good rhythm and threw some sliders to move up to 3rd.”
After holding steady near the front of the night’s dash, Carson would roll off third in the 360 A-main, where he would stay until the late run by the eventual winner, Ryan Giles. “We started third and stayed there for most of the feature,” said Carson. “We had set the car up to run the top and, as the race wore on, the bottom started looking pretty fast. Giles got by us late and was hooked up on the bottom, but it was still a great night for us and I can’t complain about being second in points and getting to do it all again this weekend!”
Carson will have the Cressman Enterprises/Jetco Electric #27 back on the track for two nights of action this weekend. Friday night will see him taking on the Midwest Power Series at Jackson Motorplex, before heading back to Knoxville for Saturday night!
